"Chinglish signs" seen in Beijing.
No worries mate. |
Fair enough, I'll go along with that.
Gee, and I was in real need of a squat!
Not a sign, but a very interesting piece of wall art. |
The greatest sign of all from this guy who wanted to jump in front of the camera just to have his pic taken. |
A few signs we saw in Beijing in 2007.

While you were looking for a squat I was laughing my butt off at #5 "Be a good mathematician, buying drinks are always 2 for 1" SCORE! =) hehe =)
Got to love Huxley's Bar Rules...just makes you want to run in and see what else is going on inside...what a neat idea for a post...loved it...
Just shut up and drink! I could use that one on a few people I know....
Fun signs Here is my photo Thursday http://www.eileenludwig.com/capture-magnificent-grand-canyon/
Translated signs always make me chuckle. I like the one with all the rules!
The 'Just Shut Up and Drink'-sign reminds me of a saying up here - or rather next door, in Finland. The Finnish are known for being a bit introverted and not very talkative. So when a traveller met a Finn in a sauna, he was offered a shot of vodka. The traveller said 'cheers', but the Finn merely replied: 'We're here to drink, not to talk'. (Loses a bit in translation, but you get the idea :))
I can't get enough of these weird signs/translations. They keep popping up around the web and they always make me stop to read
Did you get the chance to see much, or were you studying all the interior signs in huxleys for a little to long, until your vision came impaired
LOL, IO thought I had some doozies!
Google + on ya !
Great shots Jim. I can remember wondering about quite a few signs when I was in China. I must have a look at those photos and post some. They were very funny.
Hahahaha, these are funny!
Thanks for sharing.
These are great! Love "Just Shut up and Drink" :)
My wife often tells me the same thing after I start raving on when had a few wines..."Just shut up and drink Jim!"
We had a few days in Beijing to look around but not a city we'd go back to in a hurry. Pollution is serious stuff there.
Those signs made me laugh. I love collecting photos of exactly this sort of thing on my travels.
There's now a play in Broadway just about Chinglish http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-15471753.
My favourite from what I've seen is "slippery when wet" = "Be Mindful of the Juicy Surfaces!"
Great stuff. Always guarantees a smile. To start the week-end.
